Power in Silence

"Power In Silence" is a mixed media piece that is centered on a pair of intense, expressive eyes that speaks through gaze rather than voice. Using oil pastels, plaster, fabric, and collaged newspaper, the piece is layered both materially and symbolically. The sculpted fabric mimics the texture of a head wrap and mask, signifying protection; while the newspaper clippings in the negative space reflect the surrounding noise of society such as media, opinions, and external pressures.
This piece challenges the idea that power must always be loud or performative. Instead, it honors the strength in presence, in knowing, and in choosing stillness over spectacle.
